Hello All: There are quite a few articles about regarding errors encounted when exporting a portal. They are quite old and do not appear to address my specific issue.

Which is , when attempting to export a portal I get this error.

Error: Export Template is currently unavailable.
DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. ---> System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at DotNetNuke.Modules.Admin.PortalManagement.Template.SerializeTabs(XmlDocument xmlTemplate, XmlNode nodeTabs, PortalInfo objportal, Hashtable hRoles) at DotNetNuke.Modules.Admin.PortalManagement.Template.cmdExport_Click(Object sender, EventArgs e) --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

Any new ideas?

Object is not set to an instance of an object, object is null hence the null reference exception. In the function called serialize tabs!! Its passing some variables from ur portal one of those object namely xml template, objecttabs, or roles.... one of them is null! What exactly are u trying to do? Export a portal template?

That's correct. All I am doing is using the export functionality with the contents option enabled.

Site Map
      Host Menu
             Portals

I then select one of my Portals and "Export Template".

It is here, there is a bit of a pause and then the error.

Cheers

hmm.. this may need to be logged as an issue, but I'm guessing its more a user issue. Make sure you're logged into that portal, the template exists as an xmlTemplate, there are nodetabs or pages in the template, of course that the portal already exists, and there are user/security roles in that portal. Barring these my guess "and it's just a hunch" is that there's no xmltemplate and ur portals skin is probably an ascx control? Read the documentation as well cause I've not tried this since dnn 3x

Good luck

Thanks ... sounds ominous  I am sure it is user error here.

Make sure you're logged into that portal,
I log in as host to one portal (this portal). As far as I am aware, that is all that is available. Given that the export functionality is visible, I imagine that I must be logged in!

the template exists as an xmlTemplate.
Which template is this? I am trying to generate one via the export function. How do I confirm that another template pre-exists?

there are nodetabs or pages in the template
There are nodes on the page I am trying to export

user/security roles in that portal.
Yes

no xmltemplate and ur portals skin is probably an ascx control?
Definately my skin is an ascx control. What is the implication of this?

Thanks heaps for your help.

Have u read widely? e.g. http://www.dotnetnuke.com/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=9ZyeXoymc04%3D&tabid=478&mid=857 if so please try the dnn forum under the project where the developer will most probably be better to help. it could be a number of issues and honesly I'm not too sure. have you tried unchecing the content? if this wotks then a module in the portal is causing the crash?
