My reason for this editor being one of my favourites is the amazing lengths it goes to extending your site's capabilities without the need for alot of the extra modules. This means that for upgradability, it's going to keep a site in check because the reason many people don't upgrade is because they are using extra modules that are not carried through with updates. Some of the features with extended editors allow the embedding of flash, wmv, pdf files, adding code snippets, common links, common images, zoom and full page editing, just to name a few. Right clicking the page when in edit mode also allows further formatting which for experienced users is very handy in the speedy updating and maintenance of a website. The ability to target links into to new pages, rather than modifying the html code, able to use templates, tables, and not have the problems with extra line spaces in the return carriage are very important features in my opinion, when it comes to managing site content in a consistent environment. You can also create templates and provide a library of pre formatted text/images to help generate consistent content. The editor is the most used module for any DotNetNuke website, and to make it rich in power and performance is an important. Experienced developers can modify the buttons/functions displayed on the site, but for me, not being a programmer, I just have a standard installation with everything showing. Below are thumbnails if clicked, will open a new window and take you to a larger images of the editors. If you would like to know more or purchase the editor, you can purchase directly from http://www.cutesoft.net and if purchsed from me, I can provide a 5% discount and 1 custom newsletter template for your site which can be used in conjunction with the Bulk Email module.
This is the text/html module- you can have images, emoticons, media, special characters, html and much more!
This module uses the open source controls of the FreeTextBox editor, known as FTB and is a very important part of the DotNetNuke infrastructure as so many modules that are created, rely on Text/Html editors to list/create/manage information and content to that particular module.
For example - the FTB editor is used in the BulkEmail module to allow the embedding of images and text and create formatting for emailing registered users through the Bulk Email module found under the Admin/Bulk Email tab.
For those who have installed the Catalook shopping cart, you can enjoy the use of your preferred third party editor to manage products. The third party editors have many more features than the Free Text Box editor. However, the standard editor as provided with every DotNetNuke installation is a very good product, and the example of commenting on this extendable feature is more to show how DotNetNuke can be enhanced to suit your requirements.
A Screen shot of the FTB editor - This is the default editor which over time has improved making it more browser friendly. Add your content and then you can even add in search words that are used to find specific information in your website. You can add images from here or from the file manager.
Over time, different editors have been used, and for now, mostly because of the licensing, the FCK Editor has been used throught DNN installs.
